Airbus A319 experiences autopilot and systems failures after Edinburgh takeoff

An Airbus A319‑131 operating from Edinburgh Airport declared a PAN shortly after takeoff when its autopilot and autothrust systems disconnected and the GPIRS lost positional data, and the crew diverted to London Heathrow using radar vectors.

The crew re‑engaged the autopilot and autothrust, but they disconnected again during the approach, and a rudder travel limiter error forced a go‑around before the aircraft landed safely; the AAIB attributed the failures to severe IRS drift caused by vertical shock loads on the takeoff roll, noting two large sound impulses from the nose landing gear in the CVR, while finding no damage to the ADIRU or nose gear.
