Romania signed a contract for 12 Airbus H225M multi‑purpose military helicopters as part of its helicopter fleet renewal program, announced by Airbus Helicopters on 7 October 2026 through the French Defence Procurement Agency DGA.

The order, financed under the European Commission’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) programme, will replace the IAR‑330 Puma helicopters currently operated by the Romanian Air Force and the helicopters will be configured for ground‑target attack, reconnaissance, surveillance, tactical protection and day/night special air assault missions.

Romania’s purchase follows earlier orders for two H215M helicopters for maritime missions and recent acquisitions of 7 H160 and 5 H145 helicopters for civil‑service duties.
