Mayor Gerardo Merino announced that Trelew completed its first air export, shipping 18 tons of salmon to the United States on a Boeing 737 operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas Cargo.

The salmon, inspected by Customs and SENASA, originated in Chile, entered Argentina through Río Gallegos, and was trucked to the regional airport by Transporte Vesperini with involvement from the Chubut provincial government and its Investment and Foreign Trade Agency; the cargo will travel from Ezeiza to Miami, with local media describing the fish as fresh while the provincial government calls it frozen. The cargo trial, which began in September 2025, links Ezeiza, Neuquén and Trelew on a dedicated freighter service operating Monday‑Friday for an initial 90‑day period.
