American Airlines will begin installing Starlink satellite internet on all of its mainline aircraft, excluding regional jets, with work slated to start in early 2027.

Rollout plan

The airline announced that Starlink installations will commence in early 2027 and will be applied to every aircraft in its mainline fleet, including all Boeing jets, while its regional jet fleet will not be fitted at this time.

Fleet coverage

American’s mainline fleet comprises more than 130 Boeing widebodies, around 400 Boeing narrowbodies and over 500 Airbus narrowbodies, totaling more than 1,000 jets.

One source states the airline plans to install Starlink on more than 1,030 aircraft, including widebodies, and notes an additional 300 mainline aircraft are scheduled for delivery in coming years.

Technology performance

Starlink’s Performance Aero Terminal can provide internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps per terminal.

What's still unclear

Sources differ on the total number of mainline aircraft to receive Starlink, citing more than 1,000 jets, more than 1,000 jets after installation, and 1,030 aircraft.
