On 12 August an electrical failure in the control tower at Barcelona‑El Prat airport halted all takeoffs and landings around noon, and Ryanair said almost 6,000 of its passengers were impacted.

The outage also caused the ENAIRE backup system to fail, and it occurred while an indefinite Groundforce staff strike that began on 4 August was affecting check‑in, boarding and ramp services; the Union of Air Controllers called for a thorough investigation and preventive measures.
