Germany intends to order 16 new Airbus A400M aircraft, a decision confirmed by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on 29 September during a visit to the Airbus site in Bremen, and the order will need Bundestag approval.

The Bundeswehr currently operates 53 A400Ms delivered between December 2014 and April 2026, mainly based at Wunstorf near Hanover; sixteen of these are configured for logistics missions without tactical capabilities and will be progressively replaced, with retired aircraft to be offered for sale to partner countries.
