Airbus has asked airlines to inspect selected A330 Neo aircraft for loose objects after a tool was discovered in the height pipeline, while also addressing a surface protection defect on 500 fuselage elements of the A321 Neo with supplier Leonardo.

The inspections have pushed back 20 aircraft deliveries to the fourth quarter, although Airbus says there is no safety risk from the defect and aircraft currently leaving the factory can be handed over as scheduled.

Why it matters

The delivery delays could affect airlines' fleet planning and revenue targets for the year.
