The Romanian government signed a contract on 7 October 2026 for 12 Airbus H225M multirole military helicopters, concluding the agreement with the French defence procurement agency DGA and funding it through the European Commission’s SAFE programme.

The new helicopters will replace the Romanian Air Force’s IAR‑330 Puma fleet for conventional and special‑operations missions and will be configured for ground‑target engagement, attack, reconnaissance, surveillance, tactical protection and day‑and‑night airborne assault, while IAR Brașov is set to provide about 15 % of the joint procurement programme.
