The FAA authorized JetBlue Airways to acquire 22 slots at New York LaGuardia Airport that were previously held by Spirit Airlines, which ceased all passenger operations on 2 May 2026 and entered liquidation.

JetBlue won the July auction for the slots with a $58.5 million offer, and the FAA granted a waiver of the 2006 ordinance that barred slot transfers, provided JetBlue does not lease or swap any of the slots until April 2028, while also waiving the 80% usage requirement until April 2027 to allow new and expanded services.
