Work has begun on the new Trabzon Airport, starting with drilling and filling on the sea floor, and will involve about 97 million tonnes of fill material, according to the project details.

The airport will feature a 3,240‑metre long, 45‑metre wide runway, a parallel taxiway 1,370 metres long and 155 metres wide, a 110,000‑square‑metre terminal, and parking for 1,250 vehicles covering 30,000 square metres, while technical and support buildings will occupy 35,000 square metres and roughly 13 million tonnes of earth will be excavated to level the existing site.
