The first Airbus A350‑1000 for Lufthansa flew its maiden test flight on 5 October 2023 in Toulouse, lasting about three and a half hours and using the French test registration F‑WZNY before adopting the airline’s registration D‑AIFA.

The aircraft, named Deutschland and painted in a 100‑year special livery with a white crane on a dark‑blue fuselage, is part of an order increased to fifteen units, and Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter said each plane must complete at least two test flights before the airline’s own pilots take over, with a target delivery in November.
