Apple AirTag integration cuts permanently lost luggage by 90% and speeds recovery

In 2025, about 24 million pieces of luggage were mishandled at commercial airports, a 23 % improvement over 2024, and SITA reported that its integration of Apple’s Share Item Location feature with airlines reduced permanently lost luggage by 90 % in its first year.

The same integration also accelerated delayed‑bag recovery by 26 %, and SITA added Google’s Find Hub to its WorldTracer system in March, a platform used by more than 500 airlines and ground handlers.
