Aena assumes control of Rio Galeão Airport on 6 Oct 2026

Spain's airport operator Aena formally took control of Rio de Janeiro–Galeão Airport on 6 October 2026, completing a share purchase agreement that follows its winning bid of R$ 2.9 billion at a government auction in March 2026.
The concession runs until 2039, during which Aena will manage the airport and pay 20% of annual gross revenue to the federal government; the operator now oversees 18 Brazilian airports, whose combined traffic exceeds 63 million passengers annually, and Galeão handled about 17.8 million passengers in 2025, including 5.7 million international travelers and roughly 68,000 tonnes of cargo.
