More than 800 tourists arrived at 19 Menendez Pelayo in Madrid after booking a stay on Booking.com, only to find the building is a regular residential block with no short‑term rental unit.

Guests had paid between 90 and 180 euros per night for the listing, which displayed a 7.7 rating and more than 700 comments, and the listing remained online for several days after the first arrivals; a notice at the entrance informs guests that the unit does not exist and directs them to the National Police.
