Skyscanner reports 17% rise in global app searches and strong travel intent in Italy

Skyscanner’s Travel Trends Report 2027, based on platform data and a survey of more than 28,000 travelers, shows global app searches increased 17% compared with the previous year and that 57% of Italians plan to travel in 2027 as much as in 2026, with 28% planning to travel more.

Among Italians, 68% intend to spend the same or more on flights and 66% on accommodation, while 30% changed destination to benefit from a favorable exchange rate and “cheap flights” was the most used prompt in Explore with AI over the last six months; 43% traveled to purchase a product not available online, 34% were inspired by films and TV series and 33% by music, and 29% of Gen Z expect to disconnect during holidays.
