From 12 October a 40 mph contraflow will operate on the M6 Thelwall Viaduct near Manchester Airport, keeping four lanes each way during the day and adding one northbound lane on the southbound carriageway, with the arrangement set to run until spring 2027.

A temporary utility bridge will be installed at Manchester Airport railway station on Sunday 6 December, closing the station for one day, to enable removal of the existing bridge in early 2027 before a permanent bridge is built later that year; the £115 million upgrade, funded by Network Rail, also includes platform extensions, track layout improvements and signalling modernisation, scheduled for delivery through 2028.
