Italo Group has placed a €3.6 billion order with Siemens for 26 Velaro high‑speed trains, with an option for 14 additional units, and the deal includes personnel training and a 30‑year service contract.

The trains will be built in Krefeld and Italo intends to launch effective competition in Germany’s long‑distance rail market from 2028, despite a court ruling that Deutsche Bahn does not have to free up at least one quarter of capacity on heavily used routes and that declared a Bundesnetzagentur emergency decision unlawful.
