Alma Air starts commercial seaplane service between Medellín and Guatemala
Alma Air has begun commercial seaplane flights between Medellín’s Enrique Olaya Herrera airport and a reservoir in Guatemala, using a Cessna 208 Caravan equipped with floats and retractable wheels; the trip takes about 15 to 20 minutes and the aircraft carries six passengers and two pilots with a payload limit of 450 kilograms per trip.
The aircraft arrived in Medellín in June after a 1,555‑nautical‑mile ferry flight from Fort Pierce, Florida, with stops in the Bahamas, Jamaica and Panama, and is based at Olaya Herrera; bookings are made through the flyalma.com website and WhatsApp, fares for September and October are 3,496,000 pesos one‑way and 5,688,000 pesos for a same‑day round‑trip, and Irelandia Aviation backs the project while Alma Air is in talks with Aerocivil and Dimar to conduct saltwater trials for future Pacific and Caribbean routes.
