ICAO and IATA called on governments and aviation stakeholders to renew commitment to the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) as it marks its 10th anniversary, after 192 ICAO member states unanimously endorsed CORSIA and the industry's net‑zero carbon emissions ambition at the 2026 ICAO Assembly.

The scheme is intended to provide environmental integrity, regulatory certainty and a level‑playing field for international airlines, complementing advances in aircraft technology, flight operations and the use of cleaner fuels such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and lower‑carbon aviation fuel (LCAF); the volume of CORSIA‑certified sustainable and lower‑carbon fuels used by the industry has more than doubled in the past two years. ICAO highlighted the industry's ability to maintain its CORSIA commitments despite the severe disruption caused by the COVID‑19 pandemic, and ICAO officials said future effectiveness will depend on sustained international cooperation, technological progress, effective implementation and regular review of eligible carbon‑credit programmes and fuels.
