FAA issues new order updating drone airspace authorization procedures

The Federal Aviation Administration issued Order JO 7200.23E, effective October 31, 2026, to update procedures for reviewing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) airspace authorizations and waivers, including requests involving airport Class E surface airspace, vertical structure inspections, and beyond visual line of sight operations.

The order also mandates that all Part 91 UAS approvals must incorporate a waiver of the see‑and‑avoid provisions in § 91.113(b).
