Aena takes over management of Rio de Janeiro‑Galeão airport
Aena officially took over the management of Rio de Janeiro‑Galeão airport after its offer exceeded the government‑set minimum of 932.8 million reais by 210.88%, while Zurich Airport and the airport itself also submitted bids.
The concession contract obliges the operator to transfer 20% of its gross annual revenues to the federal government until May 2039, and Aena said it will focus on operational efficiency, passenger experience, cargo growth and linking Galeão with its Brazilian network, especially Congonhas, to develop an international hub; its global portfolio now covers 81 airports in five countries after entering Brazil in 2020 with airports such as Recife and Maceió.
