Long Thành International Airport is expected to commence commercial operations on 24 December 2026 after completing a three‑phase operational readiness test (ORAT) in September‑October, November and December 2026.

The ORAT includes 55 scenarios developed with Incheon Airport consultants, with two scenarios run in September 2026 involving passenger rescue and fuel‑leak response drills, and individual and integrated testing of baggage handling, security screening, technical systems and the aircraft refueling system, which is to be fully tested, run and licensed by November 2026; the passenger terminal is already 100 % complete and the airport plans to handle 20‑30 flights per day and 2.5 million passengers from December 2026 to March 2027.

The Civil Aviation Authority (ACV) must complete 15 related procedures, including seven land‑use and eight aviation‑safety steps, before the airport can be operated.
