EASA expands safety warning to include north‑western Saudi airspace amid Houthi threats

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency broadened its flight safety warning for European carriers to cover the north‑western Saudi Arabian airspace, adding the regions of Tebuk and Medina to its risk list.
The agency said the warning reflects the Houthi group’s demonstrated intent and capability to strike deeper into Saudi Arabia, noting intense missile activity and active use of air‑defence systems that raise the risk of civilian aircraft being misidentified or hit by debris; Lufthansa Group and three major Indian airlines temporarily suspended all flights planned to Riyadh, where Riyadh King Khalid International Airport handles an average of 813 flights per day, making it the kingdom’s second‑busiest airport.
