ST Engineering launches 84,000 sqm airframe MRO hub at Singapore Changi Airport
The new facility adds four wide‑body bays, expands capacity by 40 percent and is expected to service about 100 extra wide‑body aircraft each year, employing more than 500 staff.
Facility details
ST Engineering opened an 84,000 square‑meter airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Changi Airport in Singapore. The site includes four bays for wide‑body aircraft and incorporates digital technologies, automation and artificial intelligence such as drones for visual inspections, autonomous mobile robots for parts transport and AI‑enabled defect detection.
Real‑time maintenance dashboards and AI‑based inspection tools are intended to improve maintenance quality, turnaround time and operational safety.
Capacity increase
When fully operational, the new hangar will increase ST Engineering’s wide‑body airframe MRO capacity in Singapore by 40 percent, which corresponds to up to 100 additional wide‑body aircraft that could be serviced each year.
Employment and sustainability
The facility is expected to employ more than 500 people once fully staffed. It also generates solar power on site and collects rainwater.
Opening ceremony
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, who also serves as minister for trade and industry, attended the opening on 9 October 2026.
