Freightmate admits using thousands of Flexport documents after employee download

Freightmate and its founders have acknowledged acquiring and using roughly 2,000 confidential Flexport shipping documents.

In May 2024, while still employed by Flexport, employee Zhao downloaded the documents, which covered about 70 shipments and included bills of lading, shipping instructions, packing lists and arrival notices, and used a small sample to test ChatGPT’s ability to extract standard shipping information; the documents were deleted from Freightmate’s Google Drive and other accounts on 1 July 2024 as part of a ‘clean room’ process.
