London Southend Airport serves London market with direct rail links

London Southend Airport, located in Essex 41 miles from the capital, is recognised by the Civil Aviation Authority as one of the six main airports serving London and uses the ‘London’ name to highlight its convenient services for passengers traveling to and from the city. The airport has its own railway station opposite the terminal, offering direct Greater Anglia services that reach London Liverpool Street in about 52 minutes and Stratford in about 43 minutes, with up to six trains per hour during peak times. The airport opened as a municipal facility in 1935, was purchased in 2008, and saw the addition of the railway station in 2011 along with a runway extension and a new passenger terminal.
