In October 2020 American Airlines reduced the flight‑attendant crew on its Boeing 777‑300ER from 13 to 11 and reconfigured the cabin to include 70 Flagship Suite seats, raising total capacity to 330 seats from 304.

Similar crew reductions were made on the 777‑200 (from ten to nine attendants), the 787‑9 (one fewer attendant on international flights) and the premium‑transcontinental Airbus A321T (from six to five). The airline informed the Association of Professional Flight Attendants of the changes, and the union said it would take the issue to arbitration.
