The Court of Cassation confirmed that Antwerp Airport’s runway remains 1,510 metres long and was not illegally extended, ending a legal dispute that began over a decade ago.

The court rejected an appeal by the action group Verlenging Nooit and local residents, while earlier acquittals of the Flemish Region and LOM Vlaanderen were upheld; the airport’s 2022 runway renovation was said not to have extended or widened the runway, and the R11 tunnel built in 2016 created an obstacle‑free safety area beyond the runway end.
