The planned central airport control centre at Munich Airport is still in the concept phase, with the first phase focused on defining a comprehensive operational concept, while the airport currently operates with a decentralized structure of several control centres.

In February, heavy snowfall prevented six flights carrying about 600 passengers from departing; a special flight permission allowed takeoffs until 1:00 a.m., but the aircraft remained on the ground, and no buses were available to return passengers to the terminal, leaving them to stay overnight in the aircraft. The airport and Lufthansa acknowledged handling errors, with Lufthansa citing unusually difficult weather, insufficient bus drivers due to misprioritisation, and a mistaken decision not to escalate the situation, including not alerting the fire department.
