The Labour Party announced a policy that will require airlines to display real‑time airfares, provide automatic refunds when flights are cancelled or significantly changed, and compensate passengers for significantly delayed checked baggage or undelivered paid services.

The policy also obliges airlines to publicly report delays, cancellations and baggage performance, and aims to open skies to more competition by offering fair access to airport infrastructure for smaller carriers, with $5.7 million from the Regional Infrastructure Fund offered to regional airlines to help manage operating costs.

Why it matters

The measures could increase competition and give smaller airlines better access to airport facilities.
