Customs and Border Protection agents arrested Alberto Hernandez Castillo at Miami International Airport after a secondary inspection revealed six plastic tubes sewn into his underwear that contained live birds.

The ten birds consisted of eight yellow‑faced grassquits and two blue grosbeaks; Castillo claimed they were for personal use and signed a customs declaration stating he was not bringing wildlife into the United States. He was charged with smuggling goods, released on a $25,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26, while the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the case.
