A draft resolution honoring Flydubai captain Smit Machchhar was presented in the U.S. House of Representatives on 5 October and was referred to the House Foreign Affairs Committee the same day.

The resolution, introduced by Democrat Josh Gottheimer and co‑sponsored by Republicans Michael McCaul and Don Bacon, notes that despite severe injuries Captain Machchhar opened the cockpit door to allow other pilots to intervene during a cockpit attack, helping ensure the safe evacuation of approximately 174 people on board, and praises the cabin crew, off‑duty pilots and passengers for their intervention; the flight had departed Dubai for Tel Aviv on 30 September and made an emergency landing at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia after the incident.
