GE Aerospace shipped four F404‑IN20 engines in September 2026, adding to the ten engines already supplied to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the LCA Mk‑1A fighter, and the Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed orders for 180 Mk‑1A jets worth about ₹1.1 lakh crore.

HAL reports at least 25 Tejas airframes are ready, with the first three aircraft slated for delivery in the third year of production and a rate of 16 per year for the following five years, but no Mk‑1A fighter has yet been delivered to the IAF.

Why it matters

The chief of air staff said the delay in induction is hurting the IAF, highlighting operational impact of the engine delivery schedule.
