Lufthansa scheduled its last commercial flight of the Airbus A340‑600 for 18 October, flying from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt and arriving on 19 October, moving the final flight forward from an originally planned 24 October.

The airline currently operates four A340‑600 aircraft, mainly on the Frankfurt–Washington Dulles and Frankfurt–New York (JFK) routes, and announced the fleet withdrawal in April as part of Lufthansa Group capacity and cost measures for 2026. Lufthansa received 24 A340‑600s since 2003, representing almost a quarter of the 97 A340‑600s delivered by Airbus.

Other operators of the A340‑600 include Mahan Air, Conviasa and Universal Sky Carrier, with the remaining aircraft now used in private, VIP and government operations.
