Civil aviation ministry asks defer of Mumbai‑Navi Mumbai international flight shift

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed Adani Airport Holdings to postpone the planned transfer of 265 weekly international departures from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 to the new Navi Mumbai airport, putting the October 25 transition on hold.

MIAL had asked airlines to identify by October 6 the services they would temporarily discontinue or move, and the operator will convene a meeting with airlines, the airport authority and the ministry on October 13 to develop a fresh roadmap for the transition, after earlier discussions began in August over the Terminal 1 redevelopment.

IATA welcomed the decision to defer the shift and called for a collaborative approach before a revised transition plan is presented.

Why it matters

Airlines have raised concerns about operational disruptions and commercial losses, prompting the ministry to delay the shift.
