- The Federal Aviation Administration is assessing a joint air traffic management platform called the Common Automation Platform (L‑CAP) that would combine the main air traffic control systems used across the United States national airspace. The system, developed by Leidos, is designed to monitor, schedule and separate flights more comprehensively. It would integrate the functions of the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System, the En Route Automation Modernization system and the Advanced Technologies and Oceanic Procedures system used in Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic oceanic airspaces.
- The FAA says the integrated approach is intended to increase airspace visibility, improve coordination between facilities and reduce traffic congestion and capacity imbalances, while a pilot program would test integration of eVTOL aircraft and other advanced air mobility vehicles into the platform.
