Labour promised to force airlines to show full prices with fees included upfront and to automatically refund customers for cancelled or significantly delayed flights, including cancellations caused by bad weather.

Consumer NZ chief executive said the Fair Trading Act already prohibits misleading pricing and that the policy would prevent drip pricing; he also welcomed plans to expand access to airline‑owned airport facilities and sought clarification on whether automatic refunds would apply to all cancellations and delays or only those within the airline's control. Air New Zealand said it already follows some of the proposed rules and noted that 1 percent of its flights are cancelled for reasons within its control.
