Alberto Hernandez Castillo, a legal permanent resident of the United States, arrived from Cuba at Miami International Airport on Sunday and was selected for secondary inspection after officers noticed an “unexplained bulge” near his waist.

A pat‑down revealed six plastic containers sewn into his underwear that held eight yellow‑faced grassquits and two blue grosbeaks, which Castillo claimed were for personal use despite answering “No” on his Customs Entry Declaration about bringing animals, and he was charged with smuggling goods and released on a $25,000 bond.
