Kenya reports first imported Ebola case, raises health surveillance at airports

Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo virus after a Kenyan citizen who had lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo travelled by road to Kampala, Uganda and then flew to Nairobi, where the patient died on 6 October 2026.

The Ministry of Health identified fifty‑seven contacts, placed ten in quarantine facilities in Nairobi and intensified surveillance at fifteen points of entry, while designating five facilities for isolation and treatment, including a 133‑bed unit at Nairobi Hospital.
