Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) is investing over $1 billion to add an international gateway, expanding its SDF Next program from an earlier $200 million budget.

The plan includes a 30,000‑square‑foot security checkpoint with 10 screening lanes slated to open in early 2027 and a Federal Inspection Services facility targeted for 2029, while passenger traffic hit a record 4.8 million in 2024 and the airport’s network grew to more than 40 destinations in 2026, up from 24 in 2018.
