A consortium led by Canberra Airport owners is negotiating with the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn to purchase One Regatta Place, the former archbishop’s residence, with the intention of donating the site to the federal government or a trust for stadium construction that could open as early as 2030.

The proposed venue would accommodate about 25,000 spectators for sporting events and 35,000 for concerts, be located next to a new light‑rail terminus and within walking distance of 7,000 parking spaces, though ACT Treasurer and Sport Minister Chris Steel notes parking remains a practical issue.
