Greek state airports record passenger growth and exceed 5,000 daily movements

Greek state airports handled 9,397 million passengers in the first eight months of 2026 and saw a 4.9% increase in total passenger traffic across all 39 airports, reaching 60.451 million passengers. In August, the 24 state‑managed airports recorded a 3.6% rise in passenger numbers, with Heraklion Airport handling 1.851 million passengers, a 3.4% increase, while Athens International Airport logged 23.17 million passengers in the first eight months, up 4.4% year‑on‑year.

Daily aircraft movements surpassed 5,000 for the first time, occurring on four days in July and ten days in August, with a peak of 5,183 movements. Aircraft movements at all 39 airports totaled 452,983, a 4.6% increase, and the 14 airports managed by Fraport Greece recorded 27.71 million passengers, a 5.3% rise compared with the same period in 2025.
