Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease in a Kenyan national who had lived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for seven years and died at a Nairobi hospital, after travelling through Uganda to Nairobi.

Health authorities identified 28 contacts and began tracing 23 passengers and four crew members, while the Ministry of Health increased surveillance at airports and border crossings; WHO supplied about 1,000 Ebola tests and 1,000 personal protective equipment kits to high‑risk counties and advised against travel restrictions to the DRC, Uganda or Kenya.

As of 6 October, more than 652,000 travellers entering Kenya had been screened and 267 suspected samples tested, with about 5,000 health workers trained on Ebola prevention and management.
