IATA backs airlines as ministry asks delay to Mumbai‑Navi Mumbai flight shift

The International Air Transport Association supported airlines against a unilateral reduction in capacity at Mumbai airport, while the civil aviation ministry asked Adani Airports to defer the planned transfer of more than a third of the airport’s international departures to Navi Mumbai.

Airlines Association of India (AAHL) had asked carriers to cut 33% of their international flights to Navi Mumbai or discontinue them by Oct 25, and the ministry suggested delaying the partial shift and holding talks on Oct 13 to develop a transition plan; IATA welcomed the deferment and the promise of a collaborative approach before a revised plan for Terminal 1 redevelopment is presented.
