PNG sets data‑sharing deadline and funds safety upgrades for remote aviation

Civil Aviation Minister Douglas Tomuriesa said aviation is a lifeline for Papua New Guinea’s remote communities and announced that a data‑sharing agreement between Casa PNG, Niusky Pacific Limited and the National Airports Corporation must be signed by November 30.

A K20 million aviation innovation fund will co‑fund ADS‑B implementation in rural areas, runway lighting and a National Aviation Safety and Security Training Centre, while Casa PNG reported its ICAO safety score rose from 60.7 % to 80.5 %; CASA Australia praised the safety culture but warned financial pressures can still cause accidents, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau advised focusing training on new system designs and defect reporting.
