IndiGo flight 6E925 from Patna to Lucknow was hit by lightning at about 17,000 ft during approach and landed safely at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at 4:04 pm, eight minutes ahead of its scheduled 4:12 pm arrival.

The strike damaged the aircraft’s nose radome, and the plane was declared Aircraft on Ground for a detailed technical inspection; the Directorate General of Civil Aviation opened a probe into the incident. IndiGo arranged a replacement aircraft for flight 6E6968 from Lucknow to Ahmedabad, which departed later that evening.

The aircraft will return to service only after receiving the required clearance following the inspection.

Why it matters

The grounding of the aircraft and the need for a replacement plane illustrate the operational impact of weather‑related incidents on airline scheduling and fleet availability.
