ICAO will expand Air Traffic Flow Management worldwide to reduce flight delays, fuel consumption and emissions, aligning flights before takeoff with available airport and airspace capacities and increasing real‑time data exchange among airlines, airports and air traffic services; flexible routes and optimisation of minimum separation will add capacity, with consultations in Montreal set to produce concrete implementation plans by 9 October.

Why it matters

The measures aim to lower delays and fuel costs for airlines while easing operational pressure on airports.
