FAA to launch dashboard for pilots to report AWOS/ASOS issues

The FAA is developing a Surface Weather Status Dashboard on its Weather Cameras website that will let pilots flag outages and erroneous data from AWOS and ASOS stations.

After a pilot’s report is verified, the FAA will generate a trouble ticket in its Remote Monitoring and Logging System for FAA, NOAA or other responsible technicians, and the dashboard will show the station’s service status within 30 minutes; the agency expects about 1,825 pilot reports each year, each taking roughly one minute to complete, and has opened public comments on the information collection until Nov.
