Construction of the 5.2‑mile light‑rail extension from Shiloh‑Scott Transit Center to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport has finished and testing has begun, with revenue service expected in the coming months.

Project Scope and Cost

The extension adds the system’s 39th station directly across from the airport terminal and parking lot, bringing the MetroLink network to 46 miles of rail across 38 stations in Missouri and Illinois. The light‑rail segment cost $154 million and was part of a larger $192 million project that also included $32 million for new roadway infrastructure and a $6 million, 4.5‑mile extension of the MetroBikeLink Trail.

Funding and Partnerships

Funding came from a partnership between the state of Illinois and the St. Clair County Transit District, with $127 million provided by the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program and $65 million contributed by SCCTD.

Future Operations

Testing of the new segment is underway, and the extension is slated to open for revenue service in the coming months.
