Delhi IGI airport master plan aims for 125 million passengers by 2036

The master plan for Indira Gandhi International airport targets a 125 million annual passenger capacity by 2036, adds a new pier at Terminal 3 and proposes an automated people mover linking terminals.

Capacity Expansion

The plan envisions expanding the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity to around 125 million by 2036, up from the current capacity of over 100 million passengers.

Terminal Capacities

Terminal 1 capacity would rise to 45 million passengers, Terminal 2 would remain at 14 million, and Terminal 3 would expand to about 66 million passengers.

People Mover Project

An automated people mover (APM) is planned to connect the terminals, with an estimated cost between ₹3,000 crore and ₹4,000 crore.

Regional Traffic Forecast

The master plan projects overall passenger traffic across the Delhi NCR airport system at around 160 million by 2036.
